BBC Multicast
The BBC are currently in long-term trials that allow them to broadcast high-quality video and audio over the internet using a technology called "Multicast".
The BBC & ITV intend to test the technical possibilities of streaming more of their TV channels via broadband and intend to Multicast these. This should result in a higher quality viewer experience.
To use Multicast you will need to have an IGMP compatible modem or router and have a multicast capable media player installed. The BBC are currently offering the streams in a mixture of RealPlayer 10, Windows Media Player 9+ and Quicktime 7 formats.
We have been working with the BBC during these trials to bring multicast content to our Broadband ADSL and Broadband Max customers.
